Local commitment
The most vulnerable nature areas are the areas without visitors. When people have the chance to experience nature, it gives the best guarantee for the protection of nature: commitment. That is the reason why ARK has made accessibility and information its trademarks. We want to make everybody enthusiastic about nature, from toddler to graduate, from youngsters to junior minister and from the handicapped to the birdwatcher. We continuously try to find new ways to make nature interesting for all these target groups. Adventure, action and amazement are just as important as knowledge as long as the result is that these widely divergent groups have a bond with an area. This will lead to more commitment: a basis for the extension of the present pilot areas or for the start of a new one!
Special value is attached to the commitment of the local residents. Cooperation with local schools for education in the field, clearing away the dirt, special excursions with residents, encouraging neighbours to keep an eye on things. In all respects, the residents must have the feeling that we worry about their own area.
